The day I survived
The end of working hours is the best part of the day, all things considered.
Everyone has their own protocol on how to return to normal life. I always regularly thank God at the end of the working day, expressing gratitude for all the happiness I've been fortunate to experience, and allowing me to live another day in this world, in what we call the "paradise valley of tears." After the theatrical farewell at departure, the sweetest part of the day arrives when the tension created by the conditions of the bodyguard job suddenly drops. I greet the man on the ramp and almost run to my car.
As I start the car and maneuver through the first bend, I contemplate the joys of life available until the next shift. I used to have a habit, after finishing the day, of taking a leisurely drive to the viewpoint of our city and enjoying veal stew and a nicely roasted rump steak, which they prepared best there. Before heading to the restaurant, I would always stop at the kiosk located at the intersection before the restaurant to buy chocolate bars. I would park behind the kiosk and then exit at the intersection where the kiosk was located. That was my "elephant path." Today was lethargic and boring from the morning, and I almost fell asleep several times.
And just then, I thought that it was not good when I got that feeling; it seemed to me that I heard a sound like I was grinding my teeth. And then again.
I suddenly realized in disbelief that I recognized that sound from an earlier encounter, and I heard it as the tin whistled several times while receiving the ruptures caused by the shots fired at me. Instinctively, I don't know how I found myself on the ground. I pushed off the ground with my hands and flew towards the parked automobiles. In flight, I pulled out my gun and fired two or three times almost at random, but I still hit the windshield of the attacker's car, which I spotted when taking off. There was a short pause, and then it continued to crackle. I found myself between several illegally parked cars. Everything around me is a shattering of broken car glass and torn sheet metal and plastic.
Suddenly - Stop! They change the pistol magazine! It blows my mind.
There were two of them and they were scared! The air suddenly smelled of red. I felt the danger gnaw its sharp barbs at me. I wasn't breathing; I was just blowing air slowly through my teeth.
Now! I suddenly thought and jumped the same hundredths as if I were made of rubber,
I flew through the air and fired a whole barrage of shots almost in a burst as I flew through the air. When I fell, I curled up in a ball and then bounced to the other side and ended up near the wheel of one of the parked cars. I changed the pistol magazine and suddenly extended myself to my full length so that I could see the entire intersection by looking under the car. The asphalt was all covered with finely broken Plexiglas, and the attackers started the car in a flash from the other side of the intersection and sped straight towards me with the tires screeching. I curled up like a cat and jumped backward almost simultaneously with the car crash. I threw all my weight with my back onto the front hood of a parked car while debris from the crash flew past me and ended up in a kiosk on the sidewalk. I tensed up like a bristling cat and with the "Glock" pointed, I rushed towards the debris that was still slightly swaying. I only needed a blink of an eye to catch the "frame" of two men's bodies sticking out of the car clumsily. They flew out from the force of the impact throughpushed the windshield of the car. I immediately changed the direction of movement, ran between the kiosks, and observed the surroundings carefully for a few seconds. Then I jumped into my car, which I started in the same second.
Only now I hear that people are screaming on the street and some girl is screaming. I slowly turn the car around and go slowly without hurrying down towards the central general staff, which is located not far from there.
Emergency sirens can be heard in the distance...
I finally release the air from my chest, which I caught when it all started.
