"Infernal bodyguards", the second part.
In the following days, I had to spend most of my time with "Bird." The topics of our conversation were always optional, and after a few months, an event in which I literally saved his life, like in a movie, completely changed his understanding and attitude towards our team of bodyguards.
The story starts like this.
We are traveling to the mountain to celebrate New Year's Eve in a famous tourist center. The reception took place in a closed club called "Baron," and "Ptica" was one of the two famous owners of that club. The famous casino "Bos" was just around the corner. The owner of the club was a great friend of "Bird" and provided us with the best accommodation in the hotel. The mountain was completely white, beautiful in a snow-covered cloak.

Examining the surroundings during the day, I realized that even though there are twelve of us hired bodyguards, eleven of us would all be outside. That one was only formally left inside to maintain a non-stop radio connection. Only family and closest friends are inside, and there is practically no risk of any attack.
At night, the area in front of and around the club was the most risky. I had to do math based on what I could see. Three of them had to watch the cars, and three of them had to patrol non-stop on the way to the hotel where we stayed. Two of them had to be at the hotel, and the two of us at the entrance to the club. The job was very well paid, and everyone was verified and reliable.
From time to time, fireworks were set off in all directions, and the music was mixed, coming from numerous clubs and bars. Dull basses emanated from our club. Half an hour before midnight, I dragged our man out of the club and placed him at the door. I went to the hotel to inspect the entire area and found that everything was fine.
On my way back, I went through the forest and came right in front of the entrance to the club. I was only twenty meters away from the entrance. There was a steep downhill in front of me, and I was two meters higher than them. I was among densely planted fir trees, the height of two and a half to three meters, which were almost completely covered with snow.
The people at the door didn't notice me. They were like on a plate, an ideal target, I thought. At that moment, "Bird" came out with two of his friends. They were visibly intoxicated and could barely keep steady on their feet. The new year has just arrived, maybe another ten minutes. I crawled deeper into the fir trees so they wouldn't notice me. The snow stiffened me all over and fell on my neck. I didn't move, and I clearly heard the funny messages they were saying.
In the midst of their laughter, I suddenly froze because I heard footsteps behind me, actually the crunching of snow under someone's weight. At first, I thought it was because of the loud bass coming from the club. But when I focused, I realized that someone was walking very close to me across the snow. I was literally deeply immersed in a Christmas tree, and in front of me was a brightly lit club. I was not allowed to move because I would be noticed.
Maybe the man went to the "toilet," to "drop water" in nature, I thought. There are those who love it. It wasn't like that... After a few seconds, he entered my field of vision. He was wearing a white ski overall and was carrying a rifle with a sniper scope. Literally two meters from me, the guy slowly lay down in the snow. He hurried to get into the most favorable position. I didn't think much of it. I jumped him as he was in an ideal position to use his rifle to incapacitate him. He didn't know what hit him because my attack was a complete surprise to him. I handcuffed him and ejected the bullet from the barrel of the rifle. The team in front of the door saw me and quickly brought "Ptica" into the club. The police came in a few minutes with over ten cars, and everything was suddenly crowded with policemen.
After this event, the behavior of "Bird" towards all the bodyguards from our team changed significantly because he understood crystal clear that this New Year was supposed to be his last. He respected our rules and agreements and often consulted with us about the time and route we should take or tomorrow's activities we were supposed to do.
People from his "gang" team copied our work, but it didn't work out right for them.

At that time, many big crime bosses in our city were liquidated. There was shooting everywhere in the city. We monitored every event and analyzed and corrected our actions where possible. The political upheavals, which were all the rage, required extra effort from us because "Bird" had its tasks in that field as well.
However, after a few years, he had a "nervous breakdown" again because I didn't want to go to his emergency meeting until we filled out the entourage with another car.
On that occasion, "Bird" almost threw a brick at me.
